Handy

Handy is a 20-year-old Caucasian individual whose arms have been amputated, and this characteristic is reflected in his name. The stumps of his arms are covered by bandages. He frequently wears a tool belt, which contains a hammer and a screwdriver, as well as a yellow worker's helmet, a typical attire for construction workers. Though he is typically depicted as an adult, there have been instances where he is portrayed as a child, such as in the episodes Happy Trails Pt. 1 and Remains to be Seen. In these episodes, he is seen on a school bus and trick-or-treating on Halloween, respectively, alongside other characters. Handy's primary focus is on utilizing hand-operated tools. Despite his lack of hands, he possesses the ability to construct various objects both large and small. However, these building activities are usually shown off-screen, similar to how Cro-Marmot moves around off-screen, with a few exceptions in episodes like Wheelin' and Dealin' and Don't Yank My Chain, where he is shown putting the finishing touches on his race car and maneuvering another vehicle. When Handy constructs something for the female characters, they often express gratitude by hugging him, exemplified in episodes like House Warming and Home Is Where the Hurt Is. As a result, some fans speculate that the female characters have developed romantic feelings for him, particularly Petunia with whom he is in a romantic relationship. Whenever Handy attempts tasks that typically require hands, he often fails and displays a frustrated expression and annoyed grunt towards the camera, indicating that he momentarily forgets about his physical limitations related to not having hands. This gag recurs throughout the series. Occasionally, when he finds a compromise, it results in his own demise as well as the deaths of others. His deaths usually involve machinery, vehicles, being cut in half, or injuries to his head. Judging from the bandages on his remaining arm stumps, it can be inferred that he lost his hands in a work-related accident. Handy appears to exhibit little shock or remorse when witnessing the deaths or injuries of others, except for Petunia and The Mole. In fact, he sometimes finds amusement in the demises of his fellow Tree Friends. This suggests that Handy has a short temper and becomes easily irritated and angered when interacting with most of the Tree Friends, as evident in the episode A Hole Lotta Love. Throughout the TV series, Handy has developed an interest in flying, as depicted in episodes like Who's to Flame?, Gems the Breaks, A Change of Heart, and Hear Today, Gone Tomorrow. In some instances, he remains in the air from the moment he appears until his eventual demise. In the episode In a Jam, it becomes clear that Handy suffers from photosensitive epilepsy, as he experiences a seizure triggered by flashing lights. During these seizures, his eyes exhibit nystagmus, characterized by uncontrolled and random movements, and he collapses, seizes on the floor, and foams at the mouth. Similar to characters like Cub, Cuddles, Petunia, Flaky, Lifty, Shifty, Sniffles, and Toothy, Handy seldom survives the episodes in which he appears. The only TV episodes where he survives are Hear Today, Gone Tomorrow and Double Whammy Part I. In the internet shorts, he survives in House Warming, Spare Me, Happy Trails Pt. 1 (but not part 2), Something Fishy, and By The Seat Of Your Pants. He also survives in the HTF Break short Happy New Year.
