Lumpy

Lumpy, a 25-year-old with a low intelligence quotient (I.Q.), has mismatched antlers on the sides of his head. He is taller and skinnier than the other characters and is often portrayed as the babysitter or caretaker for many of them. He also exhibits care for things other than his fellow tree friends, such as his giant corn in the episode "Aw, Shucks!" or his pet elephant in "Junk in the Trunk." Lumpy generally has good intentions and is almost always kind and friendly. However, he is often clumsy and extremely unintelligent. His catchphrases include "Mmm-hmm!" when he believes he has solved a problem or is satisfied, and "Ah-ha!" when he gets an idea. Lumpy is one of the four primary characters and appears in numerous advertisements. Although he is usually portrayed as a good character, there are times when he is depicted as evil. While he typically does not intentionally kill anyone, he is portrayed in an evil manner for the first time in the episode "Dunce Upon a Time." However, the first episode where he intentionally kills another character is "Happy Trails Pt. 2: Jumping the Shark," in which he participates in the murder of Flaky or at least supports it. One notable example of Lumpy's antagonistic side is in "We're Scrooged!," where he is shown to be greedy, cruel, and selfish. He is seen stealing coins from The Mole's charity bucket and intentionally killing Toothy to sell his body parts. These actions go against Lumpy's usual behavior, as they are done for his own gain rather than due to his stupidity. Another notable instance is in "Every Litter Bit Hurts," where he is shown dumping garbage into a lake and engaging in other harmful acts towards the environment. Lumpy has had many occupations throughout the series, including teacher, farmer, bus driver, convenience store clerk, and police officer, among others. He is often shown in situations that are drastically different from the rest of the Happy Tree Friends, such as lounging lazily shirtless in a hammock while the others play in the snow in the episode "Snow What? That's What!". Lumpy is also the tallest main character, standing approximately twice as tall as the others. The only characters that match his height are minor characters like Giggles' Mom or Ka-Pow! characters like the Tiger General. Lumpy has the highest kill count in the series by far. His low intelligence often leads to the deaths of other characters, as well as his own. In fact, Lumpy has caused the death of every character at least once. Cuddles and Toothy are his most frequent victims, while he is frequently victimized by Cub, The Mole, Giggles, Cro-Marmot, Sniffles, Nutty, Handy, and Disco Bear. Due to his regular appearances in the series, he also has the highest number of deaths at 59-60. Lumpy's deaths typically involve explosions, dismemberment, being crushed, or being mauled by animals. Because of his strength and size, he can endure more punishment than the other Tree Friends before finally succumbing to his injuries. As a result, his deaths are often excruciatingly painful. Falling from high places is a common hazard for Lumpy in episodes such as "Dunce Upon a Time," "All Flocked Up," "Concrete Solution," "Take a Hike," "Letter Late Than Never," "Wingin' It," and "Cubtron Z." He also has a tendency to accidentally give himself a tracheotomy, as seen in "The Chokes On You" and "I've Got You Under My Skin." Lumpy is a victim of every original character in the series and, like Petunia, is often the first victim of many characters including Russell, Cub, Toothy, Nutty, Lifty, Shifty, and Cro-Marmot in the TV series. Although Lumpy is widely regarded by viewers as extremely unintelligent, he is often given the most responsibility among the characters. One example of this is in the episode "From A to Zoo," where he is tasked with looking after five younger characters. At times, Lumpy can be bossy, as shown in episodes like "Peas in a Pod," "A Change of Heart," and "See What Develops." Despite the perception of him having an extremely low level of intelligence due to his repeated foolish mistakes and lack of common sense, there are fans who hold a separate opinion. These fans consider Lumpy to be very smart because of his exceptional and unique planning skills showcased in multiple episodes, such as in "Chew Said a Mouthful," where Lumpy comes up with the idea of fitting Nutty into a locked metal headset when Nutty refuses to keep his jaw wired shut.
